°¿¬¿ä¾à : The Internet has seen exponential growth over the course of the last 30 years and is being used in a variet
y of ways. It has shown remarkable resiliency but at the same time, it is being stretched in so many direction
s that there is now concern around the world that the current Internet will not be able to handle the needs o
f tomorrow and therefore result in a crisis.
What is happening now is that around the globe, different initiatives are being introduced to support ongoin
g research to find and construct something that is better than today¡¯s Internet. In the United States, the Na
t
ional Science Foundation (NSF) is supporting FIND and GENI Initiatives, in Europe, EIFFEL and FIRE are bein
g broadly supported by the European Commission, in Asia, Japan¡¯s NWGN and Korea¡¯s FIF are initiatives with
support in their respective countries—these are just to name a few.
This presentation will highlight the main points from some of these global initiatives and give some current inf
o
rmation along with trends moving forward in the future.
